Success Story: Recruiting Top Talent for World Leading Financial Services Firm
THE CLIENT:
Financial services providers play in a crowded field. As Chinese markets continue to open up and offer new opportunities, there is an ongoing challenge to find, develop and retain the most talented individuals in this sector. With over 10 years in the Chinese market, our client is among the world’s 25 largest financial institutions. They have a triple A credit rating and offer retail banking, wholesale banking, asset management, leasing and real estate services. Their business focus is on full-finance services in the market with a strong practice on food and agriculture products internationally. They employ 59,000 people, who serve about 9.5 million clients in 48 countries.
THE CHALLENGE:
Our client came to us during a time of fast paced growth for financial services. A robust job market led to great competition for risk management positions and salaries across most foreign banks. Complicating matters, our client had a rigid internal ranking system and could not offer candidates an attractive or favourable job title. Additionally, other banks were approaching and recruiting their existing Risk staff. With a serious manpower shortage at hand, they turned to Hudson for expert recruitment and talent management advice.
THE HUDSON SOLUTION:
We began by conducting exploratory meetings with our client’s Chief Risk Officer in order to better understand their business goals, the existing structure, culture and personalities. After compiling the results, we finalised the competency profile and attracting factors.
Next, we repositioned the client’s employer brand proposition. We articulated the values of a work-life balance and our client’s continuous commitment for business and personal development. We emphasised the corporate culture responsible for establishing the client’s longevity and success in the market place. We focused on the company’s opportunity and plans for for further expansion and growth within China.
Properly explaining the title system and department structure to potential candidates was a critical component to our client’s success. We worked closely with candidates to address our client’s offer and affirm the sustainable development opportunity compared with the same position at other foreign banks.
During the selection process, we carefully screened all candidates to ensure that they would match our client’s requirements. We invested considerable time in explaining the company’s business objectives to each candidate and vetting them against expectations and cultural fit.
By leveraging Hudson’s extensive database, we provided our client with qualified overseas candidates. These individuals had local market exposure as well as solid risk management knowledge.
THE RESULTS:
Over the past 8 months, we have successfully helped our client with three placements in the mid-level and senior risk management function. Attentive to the desired competencies and motivation, Hudson has been able to attract top talent and ensure the senior management team can work diligently and cohesively to achieve the company’s business objectives.
Our client is now one of the top contributors to the Hudson in Shanghai revenues in the Banking sector. Furthermore they provide us with all of their senior vacancies. Through our disciplined approach to recruitment and talent management, we have built a strong, trustworthy relationship with our client.
